The hat was produced in limited quantities for the 1985 industry conference that coincided with a historic period at A&M Studios, where the charity single “We Are the World” was recorded on January 28, 1985 — uniting icons like Michael Jackson, Ray Charles, Tina Turner, Stevie Wonder, and Diana Ross under Quincy Jones’ direction. Later that spring, A&M hosted a four-day NARM (National Association of Record Merchandisers) Conference, during which Quincy Jones delivered a powerful address denouncing “musical apartheid” and racial barriers within the industry.
